Road Trip through Oregon Day 5 - Bend to Eugene
This is Day 5 of our amazing Oregon trip. For Day 1 click here, for day 2 click here, for day 3 click here, for day 4 click here.
Today we wake up in Bend at our comfortable Fairfield Inn & Suites for some free breakfast. This hotel was such a pleasant surprise. It's the cheapest hotel of the whole trip, free breakfast, huge room, and it let me pay with points at an excellent value. It's also in a great location, just a few minutes from the Blockbuster. The front desk ladies were also extremely kind and helpful.
FYI: we've been getting up every morning at 6am, so we can start the day early - before everything is crowded. It's easy to do since we are used to Eastern Standard Time. Occasionally it's been a little complicated because the hotel we stay may not serve breakfast that early, but Fairfield Inn started breakfast at 6am. By 6:30am we are back on the road. We decided to stop at Blockbuster again for some photo ops.
You can still return your rental through the drop slot:
Here's some interesting info - this Blockbuster will forever be the last Blockbuster on earth because Blockbuster no longer allows new stores to be opened. This Blockbuster currently does well financially, but most of the income comes from selling merchandise. We both bought some shirts and a pair of shades. The price is really reasonable I thought. My t-shirt says BE KIND, REWIND. Funnily, when I wear the shirt around Oregon, I got lots of comments. It seems the locals don't know they still have a Blockbuster in their state.
We made a pit stop in Sisters, Oregon, a quaint little town. We checked out a small town grocery store, Oliver Lemon's.

Next destination, Clear Lake Trail. We didn't take the whole loop. We hiked as much as we wanted and turned around. This attraction is en route to our destination (Eugene) so it's a nice stop to make. This is a BEAUTIFUL hike around Clear Lake.

The water is just so pretty here. The changing colors is magical. Pictures don't do it justice. Next, we head to Sahalie Falls and Koosah Falls. This is not to be missed.

Koosah Falls is the featured photo on top of this blog. The rainbow and all the smaller waterfalls at the base make it so pretty.

Back to the car, we head to Eugene. It may seem like we are driving a lot everyday but honestly, it hasn't felt like it. We've been limiting our driving to less than 2 hours a day and it's all broken up throughout the day into each point of interest so it's not bad at all. Our first stop for Eugene is the Fifth Street Public Market. A HUGE public market with all the shopping, restaurants, wineries, etc you could ever want. Parking is free and easy.
Window shopping is great here.
We are continuing our tradition of beer drinking after hiking, so we come to Silver Falls Brewery. Fitting, since we just went to Silver Falls State Park 2 days ago, which this brewery is named after.
We got a flight of different varieties.
The Fifth Street Market is HUGE. This map should give you an idea.
From here, we checked into our hotel for the night. We are staying at The Campbell House, a B&B with a free glass of wine. This place is very nice, but our room is in the carriage house, which requires carrying the suitcase down the steps. It's not too bad. The wine unfortunately isn't Oregon wine, which is a disappointment.
The location of the B&B is pretty awesome. Close to everything (walking distance to Fifth Street Market) and next to Skinner Butte Park.
Our room is the one on the left.
Tonight's dinner is at Bar Purlieu. We are doing a tasting menu again.

Teddy's standard option: Caesar Salad |
I thought the food was very good, although I was disappointed in the lack of seafood. I also didn't like the fact there was no menu of food served provided. I'm fine with having no menu during the meal, but I'm used to getting a menu after all is done. They told us what each dish was when they were served, but of course, it's hard to remember or even know for sure what was said sometimes. I believe the entree was squab but may have been rabbit?
