Spring Break in Hawaii - Day 8 (Pride of America)

Bamboo Falls

Today is our second day in Nawiliwili. Today's excursion is called Discover Jungle Falls Hike. We were picked up at the pier and taken to Huleia Valley. A lot of famous movies were filmed here, like some of the Jurassic Park movies.

This tour is conducted by Da Life Outdoors, also marketed as Island Adventure. Our tour guide talked about some history of the area and pointed out some flora and fauna as we hiked to our first waterfall, the Bamboo Falls. That is the waterfall at the top of this blog. The name comes from the abundance of bamboos in the area. We continued hiking, hanging on to ropes at times, and made it to the second waterfall, Papakolea Falls, also called "Dundee Falls" by the locals. This is a 60 foot waterfall where you can climb behind, as well as swim in front of it.

Papakolea Falls

The hike behind the waterfall was quite thrilling and fun. It was also a great way to cool off. I was pretty happy with this excursion!

This area is quite muddy and ripe with mosquitoes, so make sure you have good hiking shoes and wear plenty of bug repellent.

After the hike, we were taken in a van back to the ship. The van was comfortable and the scenery was incredible the whole route.

Back on the cruise, we walked around the ship and it's pretty mountains all around us.

Tonight we first had an appetizer at Liberty Restaurant, one of the main dining restaurants on the ship. We don't eat at main dining very often because our package includes 5 specialty dining restaurants when we book a 7 night cruise, but we have had pretty good experience with MDRs on NCL ships. Liberty Restaurant is very elegant. There's even a piano in the middle. Next we went to the hibachi restaurant, Teppanyaki.

We love Teppanyaki, but it doesn't feel like the healthiest thing to eat. Regardless, we usually do it one time each cruise. Tonight's entertainment is the Mentalist, David Hall again, but it's a new show with all new material, so we went and checked it out. Once again, I was able to figure out almost everything but it is a lot of fun to watch.

Tonight is our final evening on the ship. We have one more unfinished business - taking picture with the surfboard handstand!

These are located in the buffet restaurant if you want to do it too! Now it's time to pack up our suitcases. 😢
